Eats History Project
The Eats History Project is a multi-year global journey to find, document, and share the traditional and historical dishes that have shaped human civilization.
A Multi-Year Global Journey
Traveling full time across continents, Donnie Dodson seeks out the recipes, the stories, and the people behind the food, whether that means cooking in the shadow of Roman amphitheaters in Italy, tracing ancient beer traditions near the tombs of Egypt, or reconstructing the hearty provisions of Viking longships in Scandinavia.
Culinary Anthropology in Motion
At its core, the Eats History Project is a living archive of what people ate, why they ate it, and what it tells us about who we were and who we are. Every dish carries a story that stretches back centuries, and every recipe will be recreated, tested, and made available for you to try at home.
This Is a Long Road
By the end of it, thousands of recipes from every corner of the world will be documented, preserved, and shared — so that anyone, anywhere, can sit down to a meal and connect with a piece of human history.

GOT A TIP?
Send it my way — a family recipe, a place worth visiting, a dish with a story behind it. If it’s history you can eat, I want to know about it.
